Hey, you made it. Welcome! This is a community for writers. I’m glad you’re here.
Sure, writers write in isolation. And the way to great writing is through solitary practice. But that doesn’t mean we can’t share the skills and insights we discover with other writers along the way.
Sometimes it’s nice to know we’re in this together.
That’s what this community is about. Whether you want to reach out to say hello or kick back with our catalog of writing tips and a hot cup of tea, my goal is to be an invaluable resource to you as you grow and develop in your writing.
Tools to Power Up Your Writing
You’ll find everything you expect here, like character development tips and plot technique how-tos. Plus free tools that power up your wordsmithery and make the writing process both easy and fun.
But articles here don’t just cover the practical, straightforward steps that take you from story idea to finished draft to published. We also talk about things like where to find funding for writing projects and how to leverage book reviews and short stories to land your first publishing credit.
Interviews with professionals in the writing industry—from journalists to ghostwriters to novelists to editors—uncover their key insights and the insider know-how that emerging and professional writers need if they’re going to break into the writing industry or advance their careers.
And for those inevitable days when our hangups masquerade as writer’s block and keep our cursors blinking on a blank page, you’ll find the cheerleading you need to power through.
Here’s my philosophy: The muse is a fickle bitch. Don’t rely on her. Writing is its own reward, but I still like to publish. I believe in show up, shut up, and write—even if the words suck. I believe in skills over talent, tenacity over luck, and habit over willpower. If you sit down at the same time everyday and write, eventually you’ll finish.
My passion is to take everything I discover on the path to my goals and build it into systems that help other people achieve the same.
That passion is why I created the publication strategy guide, Landing Your First Publication—the system that walks new writers through their first publication using interactive tools and simple steps. It’s also why I created the Blog Your Way to a Writing Career program, where I take my writing students through the strategies I used to break into professional writing via blogging.
My personal goal right now is to develop my fiction writing skills. Nonfiction comes easy. My writing awards are for academic essays. My publications are all magazine and newspaper articles. And my viral blog posts are nonfiction. But writing fiction is hard. And that’s even after earning an honors BA in English lit!
I hope you’ll join me on the next chapter of this writing journey. As always, I’ll share what I discover every step of the way.
